About 100 German and a single Austrian cyclists will come with their cargo bikes from different parts of Germany to our factory in Amsterdam-North to pick up chocolate and cycle it back to Germany on October 6. The idea of the Schokofahrt is to transport the organic chocolate, transported by sailing ship the Tres Hombres, to Germany completely emission-free. They want to show that transport by bicycle is possible and connects people at the same time.
This is the fourth time that the Schokofahrt has gone to Chocolatemakers comes. As more and more people recognize the need for sustainable transportation, more and more cyclists and stores are joining this initiative.
Katelijne Boerma, Bicycle Mayor of Amsterdam, welcomes the cyclists. 'I think this is a top initiative. It's great that inter-city bicycle connections are being created by pioneer companies like Chocolatemakers. When you look at the crowds in our city, and the fact that cargo bikes offer a solution to make the city cleaner, more social, more accessible and safer for everyone, it's absolutely great to see German cities following suit and even making the connection.'
This time, in addition to 12,000 Tres Hombres bars, Schokofahrt participantswill also take the new Tres Hombres minis and the Chocolate Puffs off. The cocoa beans for this chocolate were sailed by the sailing ship the Tres Hombres from the Dominican Republic to the Netherlands and brought to the factory by cargo bike. Chocolatemakers made delicious chocolate from them and the Schokofahrt takes it by cargo bike to Germany and Austria, so that this delicious chocolate is also available there completely emission-free.
