Thin slices of dark chocolate with crispy cocoa nibs and a hint of sea salt. We buy the organic Trinitario cocoa beans directly from the Conacado farmers' cooperative in the Dominican Republic. The combination of the dark chocolate, the salt and the crunchy nibs makes for a delicious taste sensation.
The cocoa beans travel on the sailing ship 'Tres Hombres' at pure wind power for four months from the Caribbean across the Atlantic Ocean to Amsterdam. In our chocolate factory, we make 'single origin' organic chocolate using traditional methods and entirely on solar energy!
The Choco Sails do not fit through the letterbox and are sent as a parcel.

De Dominicaanse Republiek is een bekende leverancier van Trinitario cacao. Onze partner Conacado is een coöperatie die 10.000 kleinschalige cacaoboeren vertegenwoordigt en de omslag in gang heeft gezet naar goed gefermenteerde Bio en Fairtrade cacao voor klanten met hoge kwaliteitseisen. Zij hebben over het eiland grote installaties gerealiseerd verdeeld over zeven regio’s waar de cacao naartoe wordt gebracht om daar onder constante kwaliteitscontrole gefermenteerd en gedroogd te worden.
Organic cocoa ensures good biodiversity on the plantations in two ways: it improves the organic matter content of the soil, which keeps the soil life at a certain level and improves the water balance of the soil. It also requires the planting of shade trees, creating niches for birds and insects!
